Catholic Mass, Gavres 7​/​8​/​2022

This is an edited version of a mass in a Catholic church on the island of Gavres in Department 56 near Lorient in NW France. The service itself was held on a sunny, hot Sunday in the middle of the holiday season so I estimate that half of the congregation were unknown to each other. Protestantism is still a minority in France and Catholic masses are still well attended. Two priests were in attendance, one black and one white. The singing was lacklustre. I think it curious that the only voice with any animation belonged to a child who accompanied the service all the way through! The recording started outside within earshot of the bells and then continued as I went inside and sat near the back. The service follows much the same pattern as in the English-speaking world as I think the Catholic mass is probably standardised throughout the world with communion taken about two-thirds of the way through to the accompaniment of an organ but it was a recorded organ and not a real one.
